The disc may have copy protection that makeMKVĬannot handle. hold the disc at an angle while under a bright lightĪnd see if there are any manufacturing defects. With DVDs if I had problems with Handbrake (along with libdvdcss.dll) ripping my discs, I could always turn to trusty old DVDDecrypter. I had no idea that Blu Ray discs could be so difficult. For the most part I have used Handbrake up until now, which has worked great for my DVDs. (I'm now realizing that ripping them all might take more time, but could be easier than one by one).Īnyway, am I on the right track here? I thought that the problem might be with MakeMKV and I started looking for an alternate blu ray ripper for Windows, but so far I haven't found one that is free to use (or at least try) like MakeMKV.ĭoes anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to try? I've got a lot of experience with computers and system administration, but with video I'm kind of a noob. I've been going through the tracks and ripping them one at a time to see which one will work. ) Anyway, I saw on some site a suggestion that this problem is due to a copy protection scheme and that I just need to find the right track to rip. (It probably isn't the ideal cleaner for discs, but so far has worked well for me. I tried cleaning it anyway with a very mild LCD cleaning solution. The disc has only been played once or twice and is pretty much in pristine condition. I've looked very closely at the disc and found no finger prints or scratches. With this one I keep getting errors like this:Įrror 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00301.m2ts' at offset '41558077440'Įrror 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '41558077440'Įrror 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '41558081536'įailed to save title 2 to file G:/Video/Revenge_of_the_Sith/Revenge_of_the_Sith_t02.mkv It was going pretty well until I got to Revenge of the Sith. discs or drive Hello Guest, Why not Register today There are many great features available to you once you register at Neowin, including: Richer. Just this week, I purchased a new internal LG BluRay drive off Amazon that had good ratings (HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS40 1.02) so I could start ripping my small blu ray collection, starting with Star Wars (all 7). (Looked like the exact same log output I've been seeing, plus error codes at what I'm assuming are obfuscated source locations, so I dunno if there's any point to post that debug log here as well.I just registered on this site because I'm having pretty much the same issue with ripping a Blu ray disc with MakeMKV. Notable bug fixes: DV HEVC streams with certain encoding were processed in a non-compatible way CellWalk scan faild on some DVDs Linux AArch64 version crashed on Raspberry PI3 MakeMKV v1.17.2 ( ) Improved handling for discs with mastering errors Small improvements and bugfixes MakeMKV v1.17. Saw the FAQ link in your sig, turned on debug logging and sent it to the support email, hopefully there's some helpful info there. Not USB in this case but SATA, so dunno if there's anything there. I don't *think* it's the disc in this case, unless it's some manufacturing defect that would affect multiple copies of the disc in the same way (but that's certainly possible.) Something has caused the drive to become unresponsive, usually related to the disk itself, but sometimes related to hardware (USB drives can run out of power when they go fast, but that error usually is different).įrom my experience, the drive has decided to keep trying to read a sector that it couldn't read, and so it ignores calls from the operating system to report its status. My drive is an ASUS BW-16D1HT on FW 3.00: Interestingly, the offsets are always exactly the same, on every attempt, and with both copies of the disc. I've tried cleaning it anyway, with no luck. The surface looks pristine to my eyes, too. I'm pretty sure there's no damage to the disc - I literally took it directly from the newly-opened package and put it in the drive. Also, it's not this particular copy of the disc, either: I thought the disc might be defective, so I returned it for another, and the second has the same behavior.
