![]() ![]() ĭo you still have the original relay? Can you swap that in and try? Looks like you got the wrong relay for your bike.the "105" is right for your bike and is wired as indicated above. That’s all I have for tonight, tomorrow will be Disneyland with the grandkids! Thanks It makes no clicking when the key is turned on or button pushed. The relay I bought from EME seems to have a different diagram on the top. What I didn’t realize earlier is that with the original starter relay there is a clicking that happens when the key is turned on, but not when pushing the starter button. I have 4 wires coming into the bottom of the starter relay socket:Ĩ6 - yellow wire - no continuity to chassis w/ clutch pulled inĨ6a - no wire at all - using a test light to the relay pin I have continuity to the chassis.Ĩ5 - red wire - don’t have 12v when ignition is on, switch to run, and pushing the starter button. Wire to 86a terminal bad, loose terminal, etc so that the neutral signal isn't getting there?Ĩ6a does not have a wire to that location. With the ignition off it won't start but it will spin. The starter should spin and the Bendix should engage the gear and spin the motor. You could also test the starter in the bike by pulling the starter cover and shorting the small terminal on the starter solenoid to chassis ground. Giving it a whack with the handle of a screwdriver might free it up, temporarily. The starter relays have caused folks problem. You could also test the starter in the bike by pulling the starter cover and connecting the small terminal on the starter solenoid to +12V from the battery. With the ignition on and the Kill switch in the Run position, when you push the starter button you should see 12V on Pin 1 (Blue/Yellow wire) You can check the starter button and wiring to the handlebar at the 6 pin white connector forward of the ignition coil under the tank. If you take the tank off, you should still here the relay click when you push the starter button. The starter relay is the 5 prong relay under the tank. Have you tried starting the bike by pulling in the clutch? Interlock #2. The starter button, two interlocks and one relay is all there is going on.ĭoes the neutral light come on when you put the transmission in neutral? Interlock #1. These things have really simple wiring for the most part. Thanks and I welcome ideas and assistance!Ĭongrats on joining the rank of the Rank G/S owners. I know I’ve got to take the tank off and top cover to look and listen more carefully at whats getting power and when with a test light but won’t be able to do that for a couple of days.Īny ideas? Am I focusing on the starter system when it could be the ignition? I was thinking it had to be the starter and figured for another $120 it was a no brained. It’s putting it in gear with the clutch out and trying to move the bike forward. My bump starting is not requiring a roll and popping the clutch. There’s no apparent corrosion on the wiring connections under the tank but I did pull the relays and gave them a shot of electrical cleaner…tried again - the same, nothing, but it still bump starts. My main issue is that the starter button will not start the bike unless I put it in gear and effectively try to move it forward - clutch out - I can then hit the starter button and it will fire right up. I rode around for 10-15 minutes at low speed shifting thru the gears, checking the brakes, and relishing in the realization that it was running well for having been dormant for the past we years! I adjusted the carb idles as initial settings were within grange but lower than needed to keep the bike running at idle. Popped the clutch mid descent and she fired up! Got off the bike for a minute to think things over and decided to try a bump start down my driveway in 3rd gear. Petcocks on, key on, switch to run, lights properly illuminated on dash, pushed the start button…and nothing! Off and on again, still nothing - no clicking or other noises… Carbs rebuilt, new fuel lines, plug gaps checked, valves adjusted, heads torqued, new battery, battery ground connection cleaned, and2 gallons of fresh fuel. ![]() Last week I got it to where I was ready to fire it up. It was in pretty good shape right off other than the front brake master cylinder locked up from the brake fluid and the pd tank had 5 gallons of fuel in it…Have to love inland Southern Ca! It was parked in the PO’s garage for the past 19 yrs w/ a bike cover. ![]() I also own a ‘92 gspd that I’ve had for the past 6 years. I’m the 4th owner of this bike having purchased it this past August 2022. ![]()
